Oh no, is airport noise making you stress about your new home? That’s what one Morrisville newcomer asked in a recent discussion on our Relocating to Raleigh Facebook Group. For background, if you’ve flown into Raleigh, you flew over much of Morrisville with RDU airport nearby. So naturally, you have to ask about the airport noise.
Here are some of the responses we gathered. To keep our users’ privacy, we’ve left names off of the responses.
Airport noise is not something to worry about.
One member said, “I don’t hear them often unless they have to fly low cause of weather. We live on Morrisville parkway which is about 5 miles from the airport.”
One member definitely warned, “We’ve been there and sat outside – they were very loud, you couldn’t hear/talk over them. It may have been the area of Morrisville that we were in.” Note: Could not specify the exact location.
Another member said, “I live nearby and I hear them occasionally but it does bother me at all.”
The group’s admin, Alison W. said, “Not terrible. You aren’t really in flight path but there’s definitely airplanes flying.”
There’s a lot to love about RDU airport.
We are seriously lucky to have RDU airport with flights to so many main destinations in the US. The airport noise when flying low over neighborhoods due to weather is something to be aware of, and in some ways, maybe a trade-off. But generally, the airport noise hasn’t stopped the high number of newcomers moving there.

Morrisville is a thriving city right in the heart of the Research Triangle. The neighborhoods are filled with technology, pharma, and engineering professionals that proudly call it home. Worth noting, Megan with NC Eat & Play and her family call Morrisville home. Airport noise doesn’t ruin her family time at home.
