Guys, you know North Carolina is one of the sweetest places in the country, right?

And I’m not talking about sweet tea, or better yet, North Carolina’s very own CHEERWINE (don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of plans for Cheerwine). I’m talking about those local bakers, creameries, and sweetness makers that pull on that sweet tooth when we’re out and about. Here are some of my recent favorites that my family has enjoyed and again and again.

Warning, this is a “judgment-free exploration.”

FRACTURED PRUNE | Surf City, NC

Who would have thought that some of my favorite donuts I’ve ever had would be found at a small unassuming shop in Surf City, NC? Certainly not me! I’m picky with my donuts. I don’t like thick, cakey dry donuts- I want them to melt in my mouth. Fractured Prune exceeded all of my expectations! Made fresh in front of you and then hand-dipped, they have a hot crispy exterior while the middle is fluffy and almost doughy? These will fall apart in your mouth! My entire family was blown away.

Fresh. Local Ice Cream

Fresh. Local Ice Cream has the creamiest, freshest, most delicious ice cream I’ve had. I’m not kidding when I say I’ve never tried one that wasn’t great. Harrison and I sit down on the couch to eat out of a pint and we repeat “we should stop now. One more bite” over and over again until it’s empty.

HAPPYCAKES CUPCAKERY

Sometimes you just need a cupcake……or five. If it’s been one of those weeks for you too, do yourself a favor and stop by @happycakescupcakery in Morrisville. Rich, moist cake with a light, fluffy frosting and a constantly rotating menu of flavors!

ANNELORE’S GERMAN BAKERY

Question: Why are whoopie pies so hard to come by? It’s a real issue for me. Thankfully, @anneloresgermanbakery exists and we stopped by a few days ago. The woman behind the counter (who I’m pretty sure was an actual angel) kept reassuring me that everything there is made with a lot of love. And judging from the taste of it, I believe her.

Share some sweetness.

More than ever, there’s nothing sweeter than supporting local businesses. Please let them know you saw their treats on our pages.
