Many parents relocating to Raleigh with young children often ask about the Montessori schools in the area. That’s what one Raleigh newcomer looking for their new home asked in a recent discussion on our Relocating to Raleigh Facebook Group.
They posted, “We’d like to live further out in the country but would still like to find a Montessori school or similar for our young son. Does this exist?”
Here are some of the responses we gathered. To keep our users’ privacy, we’ve left names off of the responses.
The good news is that Raleigh and its surrounding cities offer a great selection of Montessori schools.
What is a Montessori School?
Let’s start with a good explanation of Montessori schools. The Montessori School of Raleigh explains, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.” Montessori schools believe that the most memorable and meaningful learning happens when students are at the center of a complete and balanced education. Known as “student-directed learning, this approach relies on the student’s questions, interests, and experiences to enhance learning.
Here are some great Montessori schools to check out.
One of the first responses received said, “Raleigh Montessori is off Leesville and while there are new developments, there’s still land while not being far from Brier Creek.” (NOTE: See Montessori Schoool of Raleigh.)
Another member said, “I don’t know much about it yet but there’s Willow Oak in Pittsboro.”
One parent in the group shared, “We love outside Youngsville (country) and our daughter goes to Montessori Children’s House of Wake Forest. It’s only a 10-minute drive and we love it!
Finally, one of the best responses received was, “From my research, there are many Montessori’s in the area and for elementary age as well.” We completely agree!
