If you are looking for winter adventure like skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing in WNC, look no further than Beech Mountain Resort! As the highest ski area in the Eastern United States, Beech Mountain provides beautiful views of snow-capped peaks and adrenaline-pumping slopes for all to enjoy.

Beech Mountain Resort originally opened in 1967 to provide an affordable, fun experience for skiers in the Southeast. The resort would host large racing events in the 1970s that attracted the attention of several Olympians.

Since its inception, it has done much to bolster the local economy and build up the town of Beech Mountain. After the turn of the century, ownership has put a lot of time, effort and resources into expanding and making Beech Mountain one of the best resorts in the region.

Beech Mountain features an impressive 17 trails and 8 lifts, which contributes to a total of 95 acres of skiable terrain. The lifts include both quad and double chairs which carries skiers to green, blue and black diamond runs. The majority of runs are blues, which is perfect for me, although I did try one black diamond and it was a blast.

I was also impressed with the three terrain parks full of jumps, rails, and half pipes, even though that was where my one and only fall of the trip happened.

Tubing is also an exhilarating option that those who are not into skiing or boarding can try. Tickets can be purchased at the resort and sessions last 1 hour and 45 minutes. I’m excited to take the kids back to try it when they are a bit older.

Beech Mountain gives patrons a number of dining options on site, including Beech Mountain Brewing Co., 5,506′ and a Cafeteria. Beech Mountain Brewing Co. features handcrafted adult beverages and signature dishes to sample. 5,506′, a reference to the elevation as you might have guessed, is a skybar at the top of the mountain giving skiers and boarders a unique and unforgettable experience and view.

We ate in the cafeteria, which caters to all palates and is conveniently located in the center of Beech Mountain Resort. It features a large dining hall with plenty of seating, a full service bar, and a cafeteria style line where you can order your food. Options ranged from grilled chicken sandwiches, to soups and salads.
There are many rental properties located on the mountain and just off of the slopes, providing a great way to cut down on travel time and stay on the mountain as long as you want! For this trip, we stayed about 30 minutes away at a cabin in Banner Elk and didn’t mind the drive!

Beech Mountain Resort was an awesome experience, and a great option if you are looking for skiing in North Carolina. It provides the magic of winter sports and creates mountain adventures that you and your family will never forget.
