New York and New Jersey residents are migrating to the Triangle in droves and they seem to all be on the hunt for authentic bagels in Raleigh. We’ve all heard discussions about what makes a bagel superior. Is it the North East tap water? The process of boiling the dough? Some form of magic that only northerners are born with? Whatever it may be, there are a few bagel spots in the Triangle that are making a solid effort and, according to northern transplants, are succeeding.

One of the most popular stops in the area for an authentic bagel is
New York Bagel and Deli. With locations in both Raleigh and Cary, the constant line out the door is a testament to their success. One member shares, “When I stopped in I thought I was back in North Jersey as they looked exactly like the best bagels I’ve ever eaten. I got a breakfast bagel and it was the real deal!”
One of the newest bagel shops in the area is
Brandwein’s Bagels in Chapel Hill. Since opening their doors, they have taken the local foodie community by storm, being referred to as the best bagel shop in the Triangle by more than one blogger. Our own

Big Dom’s Bagels in Cary is a popular choice for savory bagel sandwiches. They’re known for their extra “blistered” exterior and BLT that is stacked high with bright, crunchy goodness.
