Tucked away and nestled within thick forest greenery, an Airbnb in Durham stands tall (or…short) and ready for visitors. Coming in at 320 square feet, this modern tiny home caught my eye when scrolling the internet and practically begged me to come visit. Not the type to pass up unique stays, I packed my bags and headed to the Bull City.
Introducing Riley: The host of this desirable Durham Airbnb
This experience is made possible by Riley (along with his cohosts, Annemie and Gaby), who built this house on his property next to his own home. Riley was my point of contact for this stay and he was welcoming, attentive, and personable. He is a talented photographer and guests can find his work hanging in the house.
Perhaps most importantly, he is a major foodie and we connected over our love of local Durham cuisine. People that have great taste in food can be trusted. You won’t catch me renting a home from someone that eats at Ruby Tuesday’s. Totally kidding! Sort of…
Tiny, but unforgettable
Although small and set back within the trees, the home commands your attention when approaching from the long driveway. I audibly gasped when I saw the property! The moody, dark exterior contrasted with the lush, bright green landscaping is simply breathtaking.
Upon entrance into the home, I was immediately greeted by a hanging egg-shaped swing within the screened porch. The porch has views of the forest on all sides and makes for a stunning place to swing while reading a book or to relax at the table and drink a mug of morning coffee.
Speaking of coffee, the kitchen is well stocked. For the alcohol enthusiasts, there’s even a complimentary bar! The hosts simply ask for a monetary donation or for guests to add a new drink to the collection. What a fun way to connect with guests!
There’s also a small sitting area, bathroom, and loft with a queen bed. All areas of the home are illuminated with natural light coming in from the many windows which provide even more views of the greenery. The décor is modern yet cozy and inviting—a tricky balance to achieve.
This Airbnb is far from average and every detail is well thought-out and executed. It is the perfect staycation for locals or a great place to set up camp for those that are visiting from out of town. While it’s location feels secluded, it is actually only minutes away from shopping, food, and other Durham sites. I definitely recommend booking a night whether you choose to explore the Bull City, or sit on the porch the entire time!
