NC Eat & Play Blog: A funny thing keeps happening

I hope everyone’s start to the new year is off to a great start. Is it already the 4th? I feel like I’ve worked a whole month already. lol

For today’s NC Eat & Play daily blog, I thought I would share a fun story.

Yesterday, while dining at Salt & Lime for a strategic meeting, a few people came up to me and offered their appreciation. The appreciation isn’t what is funny. That happens more and more these days. It still makes me feel funny, but I’ve gotten used to it.

What’s funny is that each person kept saying “I love what y’all (plural) do,” and “I follow you guys (plural) and tried your recent recommendation.”

Zoomed out I wouldn’t think much about it. I have a team that I work with for NC Eat & Play, so the fact that they say “y’all” or “you guys” as plural just makes sense – especially because the head of my brand management, Del, was standing there with me each time it occurred.

But it’s the way they said it as if they personally know us and referred to “us.”

I’m used to it, but my brand manager doesn’t get too involved in front of the camera – albeit he’s a staple at all of our events and is as much of a front guy as anyone.

It finally dawned on me to ask the question, “Do they think you’re Harrison, my husband?”

When I asked that out loud to Del, we laughed and started to wonder the same thing. Del is usually with me at all of our business meetings (sans family) which occur around town and throughout the state, but when I’m on assignment I usually have my family with me and Harrison is always with us and no Del.

Of course, as soon as we laughed about it another person came up and offered up “I love you guys and what you do. I follow on TikTok.” Well, that immediately signaled Del to ask the gentleman, “Do you think I’m her husband?” The man replied, “Yes, aren’t you?”

Once again, we laughed.

It’s safe to say Del is like my NC Eat & Play work husband at this point

I also realized that the two aren’t usually pictured together. So I figured I would share one of the only times we all gather for a group shot to help clarify who’s who.

It’s funny to me that we work together all year long, and the only picture we have all together is when we attend the Capital City Clauses, annual Jingle Ball (which NC Eat & Play is a proud Media Sponsor). Del and Kim Scheitler (picture to the right) are the owners of Llama House Partners, a brand management and marketing agency that works with top North Carolina brands. Harrison’s the stud in blue next to me.

What’s even funnier is that Harrison is such an important part of our team. Not only does he go out on assignment with me, but he’s usually coordinating all of the workflow and working closely with Del and Kim on billing.

So for what it’s worth, if I’m with my kids the man standing with me is Harrison. And if I’m by myself and another man who’s probably making my head spin, that would be Del. haha
