On Thursday, November 16, 2023, the NC Eat & Play team headed out in the morning from Raleigh to the NC Foothills for a special day celebrating with Cheerwine Holiday Punch.
Arriving around 11am, NC Eat & Play kicked off its inaugural Around-The-Town Takeover celebrating 10 seasons of Cheerwine Holiday Punch.
NC Eat & Play Founder, Megan Nichols surprised locals of Lenoir, NC with free ice-cold Cheerwine Holiday Punch while they dined.
The team joined local lunch-goers at popular area restaurants to bring extra holiday cheer to their day. The stops included JD’s Smokehouse, Paula’s Diner, Taste Of Havana, 1841 Cafe, and The Shake-N-Dog.
Megan shares, “We loved adding a little fun and festive surprise to everyone’s day. Caldwell County locals love Cheerwine. We instantly felt their admiration for the iconic cherry-flavored soft drink. Many shared stories with us on how they’ve gone up drinking it and even making the famous punch themselves. Others were more thrilled to enjoy a cup of Cheerwine Holiday Punch for the first time.”

Even with its popularity in the Foothills, many locals enjoyed learning more about Cheerwine Holiday Punch. The fruity and fizzy bottled punch is a perfect addition to the holidays or any celebration. It’s available for a limited time during the holiday season.

NC Eat & Play couldn’t have been more excited to support our partner, Cheerwine to bring its punch to so many locals. Cheerwine is a staple in North Carolina homes. Now popular in many other states, the 100+-year-old company continues to delight its fans by bringing it out to fun events all over the state.
Megan continues, “The annual Cheerwine Festival is a wonderful way to experience all things Cheerwine, but it’s moments like today where we get to be one-on-one with locals sharing our collective appreciation for Cheerwine that really bring it home.”
In addition to surprising hundreds of diners with Cheerwine Holiday Punch, NC Eat & Play teamed up with Cheerwine as a signature vendor for Light Up Lenoir in the evening.
Light Up Lenoir is an annual event that welcomes county residents to enjoy a free and festive way to kick off the holiday season in Downtown Lenoir. The city pulls out all the stops with the most magical light displays, photo ops with Santa and Mrs. Clause, hot chocolate, cookies, and musical and dancing performances by local school kids.
NC Eat & Play and Cheerwine provided punch along with a tasting of Cheerwine Zero and classic Cheerwine. Fans of Cheerwine were able to pick up fun swag and even catch a few Cheerwine tees in the crowds.
NC Eat & Play has partnered with Caldwell County all year highlighting the area’s unique offerings.
Thanks to the support from Mayor Gibbons (pictured below), NC Eat & Play is able to share compelling content and itineraries to promote local businesses and encourage travel to the area.
NC Eat & Play wants to thank everyone involved in making Light Up Lenoir a fabulous success.
“It was touching to see how the city really cares about its residents and how the attendees appreciated the thoughtfulness that made the evening so special,” Megan adds.
Residents can enjoy the season with a daily light show in the downtown square from 6-10pm- where thousands of lights take over the stage in sync with holiday musical selections.
