Sunday Winter Hike Series – Fanny’s Ford
February 26 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

We will hike trails to reach the home site of Fannie Breeze. The foundation remains of this home site lie on top of a bluff overlooking the Eno River. Fannie Breeze was a slave to the white Breeze family in the 1800s and was a practicing midwife up and down the Eno River. After Emancipation, she continued her services to people of all races. She was an important member of Pleasant Green United Methodist Church and was instrumental in the founding of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church on Pleasant Green Road. If we are lucky, daffodils/jonquils planted during Fannie Breeze’s time will be in bloom. This is a moderate hike on rolling hills.
Directions: Meet at the Fews Ford Picnic Area at the end of Cole Mill Road. The address is 6101 Cole Mill Rd, Durham, NC 27705.
This hike will take approximately two hours (sometimes less, sometimes more). Please feel free to bring water and snacks. Wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothing and shoes. Well-behaved dogs are welcome as long as they are under your control and on a 6 foot leash.
COVID-19 guidelines: As this is an outdoor event, masks and vaccination status are not required to attend. Please practice social distancing to keep yourself and others outside of your group safe and healthy.
If your plans change and you are unable to attend the hike, please contact education@enoriver.org to cancel your registration so that we may offer your spot(s) to our waitlist.
