PIZZA WEEK

Some brilliant people years ago thought it would be a great idea to dedicate a whole week to my favorite food: PIZZA! This week might as well be called Megan’s week.

I’m all about it.

The amount of ‘za I’ve sought out, tried, enjoyed, and embarrassingly ordered 2 or 3 times in a row should make me a worthy judge for such an important week.

Thick or thin crust, extra cheese or sauce, dine in or take out, doesn’t matter to me. But if you add mac & cheese on it, you may win my heart forever!

Indulging on slices is a true pastime for any foodie. As kids, pizza was the big prize after a good game, the perfect meal for a birthday celebration, and a sleepover party must-have.

It was the perfect solution to skipping a home-cooked meal when my parents were too tired to cook anything. Were you complaining when they brought home a pizza instead?

As adults, we still crave it. (Okay, some more than others.)

Here’s my top 5 list of favorite pizzas in NC

There’s something magical that happens when you slide a paddle-loaded pizza with the freshest ingredients into an authentic wood-fired oven crafted by artisans in Naples, Italy. That’s the only way V Pizza does it and it’s winning fans, top awards, and a great following with locals in Raleigh and Cary.

If you thought you wouldn’t be able to find a worthy Chicago-style deep dish pizza, think again! ACME Pizza Co. in Holly Springs welcomes locals to indulge on pizza with sauce at the deep end spectrum. Planning for extra time and apps are everything when doing deep dish. Orders can take up to 30 to 40 mins to arrive at your table. Garlic knots are a perfect starter.

In Apex, you’ll find a special pizza creation served in the heart of downtown. Anna’s Pizzeria is home to the Grandma pizza and is one pizza I’ve overlooked for years. Thanks to a thoughtful server’s recommendation, I’m now telling everyone!

If you’re traveling to Asheville, make sure to try Pie.Zaa. I’m not usually a fan of “bigger is better” pizza slices, so I was a bit skeptical. Thanks to another local foodie’s tip, I went all in. The slices are what legends are made of – crispy and worthy of folding. (Don’t judge!)

All those ‘roni cups at Pizza Veritas

To prove I’m not a selfish pizza lover and that my pizza indulgences are for all, Pizzeria Veritas is my son’s favorite pizza place. Located in Cary, this is one of Dean’s favorite pizzas to pick up. He’s in it for the pepperoni and I’m all about their white pizza. One of the best white pizzas I’ve ever had.
