Happy snowed-in weekend, everyone! Megan here, and all I have to say is “okay North Carolina, you did it. You had a real winter snowstorm.”
After my recent Charlotte trip, I’ve been a bit under the weather and homebound.
One of my goals for 2022 is to get out even more and bring y’all more adventures and food exploring beyond Raleigh and its surrounding cities and towns.
But being laid up at home this past week in Wake Forest with Harrison and my boys, I have to say, my hometown rocks!
I decided to spend some time loving it this morning. So if you’re not out sledding down a hill or making snow cream yet, please indulge my ode to Wake Forest.
Getting to know Wake Forest
This town is where I grew up. When Harrison and I decided to build a house, we knew it was smart to move closer to family here.
That’s one of the first things about Wake Forest, you should know – it’s quickly becoming the town families are moving to. With tons of green, lush, and open land, developers are building beautiful neighborhoods and communities that are attracting families out of their Raleigh city limits.
Newcomers from other states like California are making their east coast moves to the Wake Forest area too.
There’s also an emerging downtown scene giving you small-town but not-so-small-town vibes. And there’s also some great food! You knew I’d eventually get to the food, right?
Over the Falls

If this sandwich doesn’t make you want to sign a new mortgage, I don’t know what would.
Over the Falls is the go-to sandwich place for all Wake Forest locals. Portioned and picture-perfect for foodies, their sandwich creations will create quite an addiction.

When it comes to new places you have to try, I have to say thank goodness and welcome to Wake Forest, Korean Kitchen!
Can I please get some Korean fried chicken wings and bao buns, stat!
Amalia’s Authentic Italian Restaurant

Making Wake Forest really feel like a hometown worthy of my mama’s Italian heritage, is Amalia’s Authentic Italian Restaurant.
The pesto gnocchi in particular was exceptional!
I recently wrote about this gorgeous place in a story about historic homes turned into destination-worthy restaurants.
I hope wherever you call home, you love it like I love Wake Forest.
But make no mistake, once this cold passes I’ll be out turning up the heat on local wanderlusting throughout North Carolina.
