Dos Taquitos is Raleigh’s oldest Mexican restaurant and has remained a local favorite for more than three decades! I’ve been partnered with them for a couple years now and my posts about them have been some of the most popular among my followers.

Dos Taquitos has repeatedly gone viral for their eccentric decor that covers every inch of the premises and their train that brings food to patrons. Although these fun, novel details bring thousands of visitors in to the restaurant, the exceptional food is certainly what keeps them coming back.

I have tasted every menu item at Dos Taquitos and have enjoyed every single one, but I definitely have my favorites! My social media followers ask me for my top recommendations all the time, so I figured a blog post would be helpful!
Here they are. I know you’re going to love these too!
Drinks, to start?
Dos Taquitos is known for their fabulous bar program with unique cocktails and classic favorites. They were also the first restaurant in Raleigh to introduce soft serve margaritas! As a non-drinker myself, I can personally vouch for their mocktails!

The appetizers at Dos Taquitos cannot be overlooked!
I love the appetizers here so much, sometimes I just order a few as my main meal. Just because something is meant to be shared, doesn’t mean it has to be, am I right?
Choriqueso
The choriqueso takes Dos Taquitos’ famous cheese dip and mixes it with a flavorful chorizo-potato hash. I’m in love with their queso, which you’ll find is a theme in the menu items I choose as my favorites!

Nachos de Oro
Again, with the queso. This time it’s poured all over crispy chips with grilled chicken, avocado, pico, cilantro, and a little hint of chipotle. This is my most ordered item from the menu. The owner, Pam, puts in an order for me as soon as she sees me. She knows better than to ask at this point!

Empanadas
The empanadas come with two fabulous flavors: one with chicken, rice, and queso and one with steak, plantains, black beans, rice, cheese, and chipotle honey. I could drink the chipotle honey.

Dos Taquitos makes one of my favorite salads in Raleigh.
I know, I know. The carbs at Dos Taquitos are always calling. If you ever find yourself needing something a little lighter and fresher and can resist the lure of enchiladas, the Ensalada Monje is incredible. I’m not entirely sure what the dressing is, but I know it makes me do a happy dance. Try it.

Let’s get to the main attraction: the entrees.
If you’re not too full from the appetizers you undoubtedly indulged in, the entree menu is bursting with delicious options. It’s really hard for me to narrow down this section, but I shall do my best.
Arroz con Pollito
Like many other white women, ACP catches my eye any time I spot it on a menu. It’s typically a bed of rice topped with grilled chicken and queso.
Dos Taquitos has a unique take on this dish that I absolutely love. They upgrade the chicken to a quarter rotisserie chicken smothered with queso and served with rice and tortillas. If you’re an ACP fan, this one will change the game for you.

Chilaquiles
I’ve always enjoyed chilaquiles, but a true obsession was sparked when I traveled to Mexico and ate my weight in it at our all-inclusive resort. Dos Taquitos is the only restaurant that has been able to fill that void for me now. Their chilaquiles are so flavorful and loaded with toppings, but somehow manage to stay crispy!

Enchiladas de Puebla
The enchiladas at Dos Taquitos are probably Harrison’s favorite menu item. It’s a delicious variety of meats and flavors as each enchilada is something different. Chicken with a green tomatillo sauce, steak with a chipotle sauce, and black bean topped with Mexican cream. So good (and colorful!)

Mis Garnachas
Mis Garnachas came highly recommended to me from Pam, the owner of Dos Taquitos, during my first visit to the restaurant. These are what made me fall in love with Dos Taquitos (and maybe with Pam a. little bit too).
I’d argue that they are one of the best dishes in Raleigh. They’re sweet potato patties topped with beans and chorizo-hash, lettuce, pico, cheese, cream, and avocado.

Tip: Ask for a side of the chipotle honey sauce to pour on top!

El Original Steak Tacos
The steak tacos are perhaps the most ordered and loved item on their menu and it’s not hard to see why. The carne asada is so tender and flavorful! It’s a solid choice that never disappoints.

You didn’t think I forgot the dessert, did you?
Bunelo
My favorite dessert at Dos Taquitos is the Bunelo, which is essentially sweet nachos. Crispy fried tortillas drenched in honey and chocolate and served with vanilla ice cream. It’s like nachos and an ice cream sundae in one!

Churros
I love churros. I’ve had some disappointing ones in my lifetime, and Dos Taquitos absolutely did not let me down. They’re really, really good.

Finally, ALWAYS check out the monthly specials!
Dos taquitos has a monthly specials menu where they feature limited time entrees, desserts, and drinks. They’re always incredibly unique and outstanding in taste. I get excited each time a new month rolls around because I know they’ll be unveiling something new that I’ll fall in love with!
